and in other news

Asher is still not walking, and I have been a little bit stressed about it over the past several weeks.  I keep hearing of and seeing babies much younger than him learning to walk.  Anyway, a few people I have spoken to have said to just keep encouraging him and give him every possible opportunity to walk while holding a hand.  Basically, make him walk with support.  So, I have been doing that for the past few days, and it seems to be paying off!  Yesterday and today, Asher has stood alone for several seconds.  This is amazing for him.  When he first did it last night, I cried, “You’re standing; you’re standing!  Hooray, hooray, hooray!!!”  He just stood there with his arms up with a huge grin on his face, trying to figure out what the big deal was.  Then he realized he was standing and sat down.  But even today, he seems much more comfortable with it, and doesn’t sit down quite as quickly when he realizes that I have let go.  Could walking be in Asher’s near future?  I’m hoping so…camping at the Pinery next month will be so much easier/cleaner if this boy learns to walk!

  1. Go, Asher, go! Oh, and Karen, I forgot to tell you about my friend’s son – he is 20 months (full-term), and is only walking when he feels like it. He still is usually crawling all the time. To watch him at the park, he can climb UP a huge slide (which my kids can’t even do!), and yet he’ll crawl around in the mulch around the playground. So, take heart:) I think it is more common than you realize.

  2. Good to hear Kare! I’m sure it’ll be any day now!! No worries! 🙂
