About Samuel Justice YiShan

How? When? Where?
In early November, the week we received travel approval for Lydia, a friend forwarded us the file of this precious little boy.  “Do you know anyone who wants a heart baby?” the e-mail said and I looked at the file and forwarded it to Doug.  My e-mail said, “Know anyone who wants a heart baby?”  Surprisingly, Doug didn’t e-mail back saying, “Stop looking at the waiting child lists!”  Instead he e-mailed back with websites telling us more about YiShan’s special need.  We both felt a tug toward this little boy, but decided to wait until we returned from China before deciding to make a commitment.

Three weeks later we returned from China and found out that YiShan was still available and the next day we called to commit.  Our Letter of Intent was finished that week and our homestudy was completed just a couple weeks later.

We are waiting for the INS (Immigration & Naturalization Service) to approve our request to adopt YiShan and then our dossier will be on its way to China.  Right now, the wait for travel approval is averaging 80-115 days, so we hope to travel between May & July.

What we know about Samuel
Chang YiShan was sent to the SWI on December 29, 2004.  The result of a physical examination showed that he was physically and mentally normal except that he had congenital heart disease.

He is a handsome boy.  When he was sent to the institute, he was very weak, ill almost all the time.  His crying was not loud.  Everyone was very concerned about him, so they took turns holding him or hugging him or doing masssage for him, hoping that he would recover well.

YiShan’s first heart surgery was done in Nanjing (Lydia’s home city!) at the end of 2005.  Now he is recovered and moves very well.  He climbs stairs, moves up and down, stands steadily and walks alone without much help.

YiShan is very happy.  He is loved by many people.  He is happy all the time except when he is ill.  He plays games with the nannies and other children.  He says “bye bye” and “clap hands”. Everyone is happy when seeing his progress and blesses him to overcome diseases and grow healthy.
